The 5 main destinations
1. Pichidangui and Quilimarí Valley — The gateway to the coast
200 km from Santiago (2 h 15 min), Pichidangui is where Choapa begins. It is not Zapallar or Ritoque: it is quieter, with white-sand beaches and a village without bustle. The Quilimarí Valley, only 25 minutes inland, has cabins, observatories and seafood gastronomy experiences.
Ideal for: Couples, families, weekend disconnection.
2. Los Vilos — Calm beach and accessible seaside town
225 km from Santiago (2 h 30 min), Los Vilos is the coastal entry point to Choapa. It offers beaches without crowds, varied accommodation and seafood cuisine. From here, the rest of the territory is one hour away at most.
Ideal for: Short weekends, people travelling from La Serena.
3. Canela and Huentelauquén — Wellness and inland nature
285 km from Santiago (3 h 15 min), Canela is mountains. Here you will find wellness spas, cabins with views of the Andes and businesses focused on spiritual disconnection. Huentelauquén, only 20 minutes towards the coast, adds black-sand beaches and trekking routes.
Ideal for: Adult groups, yoga, wellness retreats.
4. Illapel — Trekking and heritage
282 km from Santiago (3 h 30 min), Illapel is the gateway to the deep interior. Trekking, routes towards Huentelauquén, archaeology and adventure tourism. It is where the interior of Coquimbo begins.
Ideal for: Adventurers, trekking, archaeological heritage.
5. Salamanca — Gastronomy and wine
315 km from Santiago (4 h), Salamanca is the wine and territorial gastronomy destination. Wine tours at family vineyards, valley cuisine and deep rural tourism experiences. It is the farthest destination, but the travel experience is worth every km.
Ideal for: Wine lovers, gastronomy, private tours.
